Centrale is the bargain if you’re catching trains. Brera saves time on gallery days, and Navigli puts you by the canal at night. Weigh the whole charge, not the headline rate.

About Milan

In Milan, pick the district before the hotel. Duomo and Brera are the bases for art and architecture, and Centrale is the one for rail arrivals. For evenings out, Navigli has the canal-side bars, and Porta Nuova has office towers with Isola’s restaurants next door.

The Duomo, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and La Scala are a short walk from each other. A room here saves travel time, but the streets around Piazza del Duomo stay busy. Brera is close to the centre too, with the Pinacoteca and smaller lanes, and you aren’t sleeping on the square.

Leonardo’s Last Supper is in Santa Maria delle Grazie, west of the castle. Book that ticket before you pick a hotel for it. Parco Sempione is the open space next to the castle. South of the centre, the Naviglio Grande and the Darsena are lined with canal-side restaurants and stay lively late.

Centrale is the practical pick for trains and airport coaches. Porta Nuova and Garibaldi are office towers and another big rail stop. Isola, just past the high-rise streets, is where the bars are. Porta Venezia has the Indro Montanelli gardens and the shops of Corso Buenos Aires.

From Linate, metro line M4 runs into the centre. The Malpensa Express goes to Cadorna and Centrale, and coaches link Bergamo airport with Centrale. Plan long walks for spring or early autumn. July can be hot, and November brings more rain.

Other ways to arrive

Train
Milano Centrale has long-distance trains across Italy. Cadorna is the stop for the Malpensa Express and regional routes. Porta Garibaldi is the other major rail station.
Metro and tram
Metro lines link Centrale, Duomo, Cadorna, Garibaldi and Linate. Trams cover the shorter gaps between the central districts.
Car
Leave the car at home. The centre sits inside the Area C restrictions and parking is scarce, so trains and the metro are simpler.

Questions about Milan

How do I spot a good Milan hotel deal?

Look at the total charge and the cancellation terms first. Then map the trip to your sights. A cheap room far from a metro stop costs you time every day.

Where can I look beyond Duomo for a deal?

Centrale for trains, Porta Venezia for M1, or Garibaldi for Porta Nuova. If the trip is mostly about evenings out, try Navigli.

Can offers for one Milan hotel differ?

Yes. Booking sites can show different room types, cancellation deadlines and totals for the same hotel. Read the terms on the offer you pick.
