Dallas covers a lot of ground: downtown museums and towers, Deep Ellum's music streets, Oak Cliff shops and White Rock Lake. Pick a hotel for the district you will visit most. DART rail covers some routes, but many cross-town trips still need a car or rideshare.
Downtown has the Arts District, Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center and the historic West End. Klyde Warren Park bridges the Arts District and Uptown. From a central hotel, museums, DART stations and Reunion Tower are close. How close depends on the block.
East of Downtown, Deep Ellum has live music, murals and restaurants along Elm, Main and Commerce streets. Uptown has McKinney Avenue dining, the M-Line trolley and the Katy Trail instead of late music blocks. If your nights are in Deep Ellum, stay nearby or plan the ride back before you book elsewhere.
Across the Trinity River, Bishop Arts District has independent shops and restaurants around North Bishop Avenue. The Dallas Streetcar links it with EBJ Union Station. Fair Park lies east of Downtown with its Art Deco buildings, museums and State Fair grounds. It is a separate trip from Bishop Arts or Uptown.
White Rock Lake and the Dallas Arboretum sit east of the center. Go there for a garden or lake day, but a hotel near them is a longer trip from the Downtown museums. Summer is hot, with highs near 97°F in July and August. Spring and fall are easier for outdoor walks. DFW Airport has an Orange Line rail link to Downtown. From Love Field, the Route 5 Love Link bus connects to DART rail.
