The Mississippi River runs through Minneapolis, past old mill buildings, the Stone Arch Bridge and the downtown skyline. Stay downtown for rail and theaters, in the North Loop for warehouse-block dining, or near the lakes for a quieter trip.
Downtown West has the Nicollet corridor, Target Center and theaters around Hennepin Avenue. The Mill District lies east of the core, with the Mill City Museum and riverfront paths. Stay near a Blue or Green Line stop if you’re going to the airport, the University of Minnesota or Saint Paul.
The North Loop, just northwest of downtown, has former warehouses, restaurants and Target Field. Across the Mississippi, Northeast has studios and places to eat around Old Saint Anthony. The North Loop is spread out: a hotel by Target Field and one by the river are a fair walk apart.
Southwest Minneapolis has Lake of the Isles, Bde Maka Ska and Lake Harriet linked by park trails. Uptown and Lyn-Lake have shops and food along Hennepin and Lake Street. Stay here for the lakes. Downtown rail stations and stadium events mean a bus or car trip.
Minnehaha Park and its falls are in the south of the city, on the Blue Line. Winter needs proper cold-weather layers. Summer is warm enough for walking and cycling around the lakes. The Blue Line runs from both MSP terminals to downtown, but look up the schedule if you land late.
