About Valencia

The old town around the cathedral, the City of Arts and Sciences and the Mediterranean shore are three different trips. A hotel in Ciutat Vella, Russafa or Cabanyal decides which one you get.

Ciutat Vella holds the cathedral, La Lonja de la Seda and the Central Market within a short walk. El Carmen has late-night bars among older lanes. Rooms facing the busiest streets can stay noisy after dinner.

South of the center, Russafa has its own market, restaurants and small galleries. The shopping streets of L’Eixample lie nearby. Stay on this side if evenings out matter more than stepping straight onto the beach.

The Turia Gardens cross the city in the former riverbed. Follow them toward the City of Arts and Sciences and Oceanogràfic. The complex is east of the old center, so a hotel here saves a cross-town trip on museum and aquarium days.

El Cabanyal and Malvarrosa sit by the sea, away from the cathedral quarter. Trams and buses link the waterfront to the center. Regional trains use Estació del Nord and high-speed trains use Joaquín Sorolla.

Where to stay in Valencia

  • Ciutat Vella and El Carmen

    • First visit
    • Historic sights
    • Market mornings

From here you can walk to the cathedral, La Lonja and the Central Market. El Carmen adds bars and narrow lanes, so ask for a quieter room if you go to bed early.

  • Russafa and L’Eixample

    • Dining
    • Shops

  • City of Arts and Sciences and Turia

    • Aquarium

Stay here for Oceanogràfic and the museums. The Turia Gardens are a pleasant route toward the center, though the cathedral is farther than it looks on a map.

  • El Cabanyal and Malvarrosa

    • Beach days
    • Seafront dining
    • Summer stays

  • Estació del Nord and Joaquín Sorolla

    • Train connections

Estació del Nord is beside the center, while Joaquín Sorolla handles high-speed departures farther south. A hotel between them keeps rail days simple, but the beach still needs a ride.

Questions about Valencia

Where do Valencia hotel prices go furthest?

Away from the busiest Ciutat Vella lanes, including the streets around the rail stations. Make sure the saving covers the extra rides.

Is a cheap Valencia room really a good deal?

Price the beach room against one near Colón with the daily metro rides added. A cheap room by the sea stops being cheap if you cross the city every day.

Can I find deals near the City of Arts and Sciences?

Yes, look in the streets around the complex as well as the old center. For a museum trip the location can justify a higher price, even with the beach farther away.
