Sorrento sits above the Bay of Naples on high tuff cliffs. Stay near Piazza Tasso for the station and old streets, near Villa Comunale for the view, or down at Marina Grande for a quieter fishing harbor.
Corso Italia runs through the center from the station toward Piazza Tasso. The older lanes branch off toward Via San Cesareo, the cathedral and Sedil Dominova. A central room saves a climb when you come back from the ferry or the beach platforms.
Marina Piccola is the ferry port below the cliffs. Marina Grande is a separate waterfront with small boats and seafood restaurants. From there, the station is an uphill walk or a local bus ride. Check which marina a hotel means.
Villa Comunale and the San Francesco cloister are on the cliff edge above Marina Piccola. Around Piazza Vittoria, hotels face the gulf and Mount Vesuvius. Those views often come with a longer walk to the train than a room around Piazza Lauro.
From Sorrento you can take the Circumvesuviana to Pompeii and boats toward Capri and the Amalfi Coast. Summer ferry times and narrow coastal roads shape the day. Choose the station side or the port side by the trips you will make.
