Stay near Ravenna’s old center and you can walk to San Vitale, Galla Placidia, Dante’s tomb and the main station. The Adriatic beaches are a separate trip: Marina di Ravenna and Punta Marina are a bus ride away.
Start around Piazza del Popolo, then walk north to San Vitale and the small Mausoleum of Galla Placidia. Their mosaics are part of Ravenna’s UNESCO group of early Christian monuments. Sant’Apollinare Nuovo is southeast, toward the station. From a central room you can split the churches over more than one visit.
The streets around Dante’s tomb and San Francesco are quieter than the station approach. The Neonian Baptistery is farther west, by the cathedral. Some mosaic sites share a ticket and others charge separate admission, so check entry before you plan the route.
Ravenna station is on the east side of the historic center. Stay near Piazza del Popolo for the monuments and evening walks, or by the station if you have an early train. Across the tracks, Darsena has canal warehouses and street art. It is also a longer walk to the mosaics.
Ravenna also has a stretch of Adriatic coast. Marina di Ravenna and Punta Marina are beach towns of their own, not extensions of the old town. Summer buses run from the station to the coast. If you want to swim every day, a beachfront room saves the ride back.

Piazza del Popolo is between San Vitale, Dante’s tomb and Sant’Apollinare Nuovo. From here you can spread the mosaic visits over a day or two. The streets are pedestrian, so a car won’t help much. Plan how you will get your luggage to the door.
Around here: Piazza del Popolo, Tomb of Dante, Neonian Baptistery
On the northwestern side of the center, San Vitale and Galla Placidia are a short walk away. The station is across town to the east, which is a long way with bags. Check monument entry times before you plan a tight morning.
Around here: Basilica of San Vitale, Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, National Museum of Ravenna
Ravenna station is on the eastern edge of the center. Sant’Apollinare Nuovo is on the walk toward Piazza del Popolo. Darsena is beyond the tracks, along the Candiano canal. Pick this side for trains or the old canal warehouses. San Vitale is a longer walk.
Around here: Ravenna station, Basilica of Sant’Apollinare Nuovo, Candiano canal
The beach towns are well outside the mosaic center. Marina di Ravenna has the canal mouth and the seafront. Punta Marina Terme is farther south. Stay on the coast for daily swims, and take a bus or drive in for the churches.
Around here: Marina di Ravenna beach, Punta Marina Terme, Adriatic coast
The center is flat, and walking between the mosaic sites is most comfortable in spring and autumn. Highs average about 87 °F in July and August, when the beach towns are at their busiest. In the cooler months, check monument hours before you plan a short visit.
Ravenna station is on the edge of the historic center, with trains toward Bologna and Rimini. A shared shuttle runs from Bologna Airport to the station area. To reach the coast you need a bus or a car.
