About Valladolid
Valladolid is a walkable Castile and León city between Plaza Mayor, the San Pablo museum quarter and Campo Grande park. A central hotel keeps tapas and stone churches close. The station side is easier for an early train.
Plaza Mayor is the center of the old town, with red arcaded buildings and streets running to the cathedral. The streets around Plaza de España and Calle Santiago have the shops and bars. Pick this area for a first visit, and ask about the room’s street if you sleep light.
North of the cathedral, the National Sculpture Museum fills the Colegio de San Gregorio beside the carved façade of San Pablo church. The quarter is best on foot. A hotel near Plaza Mayor or the museum saves a trip back across town.
South of the center, Campo Grande is a leafy park beside the Acera de Recoletos and Plaza de Zorrilla. Valladolid-Campo Grande station is on this side of town. It is a good base for an early train, and the main squares are still a walk away.
The Pisuerga runs west of the center past Puente Mayor. Riverside paths are a break from the historic streets, and the Museo Patio Herreriano is near Plaza de San Benito. Summers are hot and dry, and winters bring frost and morning fog.
