Ronda sits on both sides of the Tajo gorge, and Puente Nuevo joins the two halves. The old quarter is south of the bridge. Mercadillo, to the north, has the rail station and most everyday shops and services.
Puente Nuevo links Plaza de España with La Ciudad. Walk down to the lower viewpoints for the full span, then return through the old streets toward Palacio de Mondragón and the Arab Baths. The path down is steep, so wear proper shoes.
Mercadillo has the bullring, the shops on Carrera Espinel and the Alameda del Tajo gardens. Stay here for an early train or bus, with restaurants a short walk away. The streets near the bridge fill with day visitors.
La Ciudad has narrow streets, older houses and viewpoints over the valley. San Francisco, beyond the old walls to the south, feels quieter in the evening but is farther from the stations.
Ronda is inland, in the Serranía de Ronda. Summers are hot and dry. Winter nights are much colder than on the Costa del Sol. Most visitors come up from Málaga or Marbella for the day. Stay one night and you can walk the gorge after the buses leave.
