About Las Vegas

Las Vegas is more than the casino corridor. The Strip runs through Paradise and Winchester, and Downtown centers on Fremont Street. Stay on the stretch you will use most, because resorts look closer on a map than they feel on foot.

The Bellagio fountains, Caesars Palace and the LINQ Promenade share the busy center Strip. South Strip hotels sit nearer the airport, the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign and Allegiant Stadium. Walking between large properties takes time, especially in summer heat.

Downtown is a separate stay around Fremont Street Experience, the Mob Museum and Fremont East. South of Fremont, Main Street anchors the 18b Arts District, with galleries, bars and local restaurants. The Deuce bus links Downtown and the Strip. The city’s Downtown Loop covers the Arts District and nearby stops during its operating hours.

The Las Vegas Monorail runs on the east side of the Strip from MGM Grand to SAHARA, with a stop at the Las Vegas Convention Center. A room near a station helps on convention days, but the Monorail does not go to Downtown or the airport. Spring Mountain Road’s Chinatown dining district is west of the Strip and needs its own ride.

Harry Reid International Airport is close to the Strip, with taxis, rideshares and public buses at the terminals. Many resort rates carry a separate fee or parking terms, so read the total and the room rules before you pay. Spring and autumn are better for long walks. June through August often brings daytime highs near or above 100°F.

  • Center Strip

    • First visits
    • Shows
    • Restaurants
    • Strip walks

Bellagio, Caesars Palace and the LINQ Promenade cluster around Flamingo Road. It is the most walkable stretch for a first Strip trip. Even so, the long hotel blocks and pedestrian bridges add distance to stops that look next door.

Around here: Bellagio fountains, Caesars Palace, LINQ Promenade

  • South Strip

    • Airport arrivals
    • Stadium events
    • Monorail access
    • Large resorts

MGM Grand, New York-New York and Mandalay Bay sit on the southern stretch toward the airport. The Monorail begins at MGM Grand, and Allegiant Stadium is across I-15 from the Mandalay Bay end. Center Strip evenings mean a longer walk or ride.

Around here: MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Allegiant Stadium

  • North Strip and Convention Center

    • Conventions
    • Trade shows
    • Monorail trips
    • North Strip stays

Stay toward SAHARA and the Las Vegas Convention Center for trade-show days. The Monorail stops at the convention center and SAHARA. Away from those stations, the wide blocks can still mean a taxi or rideshare.

  • Downtown and Fremont

    • Fremont nightlife
    • Mob Museum
    • Short walks
    • Downtown dining

Fremont Street Experience, the Mob Museum and Fremont East are close together here. Nights Downtown feel different from the Strip. Strip shows and the airport mean a bus or a drive.

  • 18b Arts District

    • Galleries
    • Local dining
    • Murals
    • Longer stays

Main Street south of Fremont has galleries, murals, bars and Brewery Row. The Downtown Loop serves several Arts District stops, but its hours are limited. Choose this area for the local dining and arts scene rather than casino access.

Getting to Las Vegas

Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) is about five miles south of Downtown and close to the south Strip. Taxis and rideshares use marked pickups at the terminals. Public buses run to the Strip and Downtown, so check which route leaves from your terminal.

The RTC Deuce runs along Las Vegas Boulevard between the Strip and Downtown. It does not go directly to the airport terminals.
Monorail
The Las Vegas Monorail links MGM Grand, center Strip stations and the Convention Center with SAHARA on the east side of the corridor.
Car
I-15 and US 95 connect the valley. Check your hotel’s parking rules and expect traffic near major events.
