About Cadiz

Cadiz is built on a narrow Atlantic peninsula. The cathedral, the market and La Viña are all inside the walkable old town. The newer neighborhoods run south along Playa de la Victoria.

El Pópulo sits between the railway station and the cathedral, with the Roman Theatre near its medieval gates. Nearby Santa María has narrow residential streets and a beach just beyond the old walls.

La Viña leads west to La Caleta, a compact beach between two forts. The central market and Torre Tavira are close. This end of the old town gets noisy during Carnival and on summer evenings.

Playa de la Victoria runs along the newer city with a broad promenade and hotels facing the sand. It is a long way from the cathedral. If you will go back to the old town often, book near a bus stop or a Cercanías station.

Cadiz has mild winters and warm sea-breeze summers. Most rain falls from autumn through winter. The old town is easy on foot. Take the bus along the long beach strip.
