Fuerteventura is a long island, so the choice of coast matters. Corralejo sits by the northern dunes and the Lanzarote ferry. Caleta de Fuste is close to the airport. Costa Calma and Morro Jable are far to the south on the road to Jandía.
Corralejo has a town centre, harbour and access to the dune beaches. West of it, El Cotillo is a smaller fishing village with sheltered coves on one side and surf beaches on the other.
Caleta de Fuste wraps around Playa del Castillo near Fuerteventura Airport. The short airport transfer is a plus for a brief stay, but the island's wildest beaches are elsewhere.
South of the isthmus, Costa Calma is the gateway to the broad sand and tidal lagoons at Sotavento. Morro Jable sits farther down the Jandía peninsula beside Playa del Matorral and the ferry port.
Inland, Betancuria is the former capital, and the road to Ajuy crosses a much quieter landscape. The exposed Cofete coast needs a separate drive. Buses link the main settlements, but the island is long, so pick your base carefully.
