About Salou

Salou stretches along the Costa Daurada between the broad sands of Llevant and Ponent and the smaller coves around Cap Salou. A hotel on Passeig Jaume I is steps from the sand and the restaurants. One near PortAventura is a bus ride from the sea.

Passeig Jaume I runs behind Llevant beach, with the Font Lluminosa at one end and the marina at the other. It is the easy pick for a first beach stay, but the central seafront is loud on summer evenings. Ponent beach continues west toward Cambrils and has a gentler entry to the water.

Behind the marina, the older streets around Torre Vella and Santa Maria del Mar are the part of Salou that is not resort strip. The Carles Buïgas area is closer to Capellans beach and late-night bars, so ask which street the hotel is on if quiet sleep matters.

The Camí de Ronda follows the shore past Capellans and Platja Llarga toward the coves of Cap Salou. Some stretches have steps and rocky ground. Cala dels Crancs is tucked among vegetation and is farther from the central promenade.

PortAventura World lies inland from the beachfront. A hotel near the park saves a cross-town trip on ride days. A seafront hotel is better for beach days. Salou’s former central rail station has closed, so trains now stop at Port Aventura and you will need a bus or taxi from there.

Where to stay in Salou

  • Llevant and Passeig Jaume I

    • First visit
    • Beach
    • Promenade

The long promenade runs directly behind Llevant beach, past palms, fountains and the Jaume I monument. Choose this stretch for sand and restaurants on foot. The busiest seafront blocks can stay noisy into the evening.

Around here: Platja de Llevant, Passeig Jaume I, Font Lluminosa

  • Ponent and the old town

    • Families
    • Quieter beach
    • Local streets

Ponent beach follows Passeig Miramar west of the marina and has a gentle slope into the water. The streets inland lead toward Torre Vella and Santa Maria del Mar. Ponent is quieter than Llevant, and Capellans is farther on foot.

Around here: Platja de Ponent, Passeig Miramar, Torre Vella

  • Capellans and Carles Buïgas

    • Nightlife
    • Small beach
    • Coastal walk

Capellans is a smaller beach east of the central promenade. Carles Buïgas has many bars and nightlife venues, so a room here is handy for late nights and may be loud. The coastal path to the coves starts nearby.

Around here: Platja dels Capellans, Carrer de Carles Buïgas, Camí de Ronda

  • Platja Llarga and Cap Salou

    • Coves
    • Walking
    • Quieter nights

Stay near Platja Llarga or the coves of Cap Salou for pine-lined shore and the Camí de Ronda. Cala dels Crancs is more secluded than Llevant. For an evening in central Salou, take a bus or drive. Parts of the path have stairs.

Around here: Platja Llarga, Cala dels Crancs, Cap de Salou

  • PortAventura side

    • Theme park
    • Family trips
    • Rail stop

Inland hotels near PortAventura World are close to the park, with the Port Aventura rail stop nearby. They are away from the beachfront promenade, so plan a bus, taxi or long walk when the sea is the main attraction.

Around here: PortAventura World, Port Aventura station
