Denver sits where the High Plains meet the Rocky Mountain foothills. In Lower Downtown, Union Station and Coors Field are close together. Pick RiNo for murals and dinner, or the Golden Triangle to walk to the major art museums.
Lower Downtown, often called LoDo, runs from Union Station toward Coors Field. The station is the terminus of the airport A Line and a hub for other RTD routes. Stay around Wynkoop Street or the 16th Street corridor if you arrive by rail or have a ballgame or a downtown meeting. Event nights get busy.
North of downtown, the River North Art District (RiNo) has murals, galleries and breweries around Larimer and Brighton streets. Five Points lies nearby with its own music and cultural history. The A Line stops at 38th and Blake, but RiNo covers a wide area. Check how far the hotel is from that stop before counting on an easy airport trip.
The Golden Triangle holds the Denver Art Museum, Clyfford Still Museum and History Colorado Center beside Civic Center Park. Capitol Hill extends east from the State Capitol. Cherry Creek North and the shopping center are farther southeast. Their restaurants and shops make for a different kind of stay, and you usually need a drive or a bus to reach Union Station.
City Park has the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance. Denver Botanic Gardens sit south of the park near Cheesman Park. Summer days are often hot with afternoon storms; winter can alternate sunshine with snow. Pack for the season and keep foothill or mountain trips separate from a walkable downtown itinerary. Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a separate trip west to Morrison, not a downtown walk.
